RainScreen Systems
A RainScreen system is an external cladding infrastructure that stands away from the weather-resistant barrier on the building’s exterior wall to create an air cavity behind the siding or cladding immediately. The primary purpose of a RainScreen system is to create a ventilation space or air gap between the exterior cladding panel and the moisture-resistant surface, moisture, and air barrier installed to the sheathing.
A RainScreen system enables easy draining of moisture away from the building, while any residual moisture gets dried by the air passing through the cladding and the wall. A reliable RainScreen system comprises the exterior sheathing, a weather-resistant barrier or insulation, a drainage plane or air gap, and exterior cladding.
